Windows 11 Canary Build 25931 is Out With More Dev Channel Features

Windows 11

Microsoft has just released the Windows 11 Canary build 25931 to Insiders, which continues to bring more features previously released on the Dev Channel. New additions include Emoji 15 support and Voice Access becoming available in more places including the lock screen. But that’s not all.

Starting with this build, all Windows 11 Insider builds released on the Canary channel will show a September 15, 2024 expiration date. Coincidentally or not, the fall of 2024 is when we might see Microsoft release the next major version of Windows, which may or may not be named “Windows 12.”

After installing this build, Insiders will also be able to uninstall more inbox apps including Photos, People, and the Remote Desktop (MSTSC) client. In File Explorer, Insiders will also see more fields in the Details pane including image dimensions for pictures, the number of pages for Word document, and more.

For users with RGB devices, there’s also a new Dynamic Lighting setting to have your Windows accent color match the one used by the devices around you. This option can be found in Settings > Personalization > Dynamic Lighting.

IT admins should also know that this build also starts blocking by default the use of NetBIOS\WINS\mailslot-based methods for the discovery of Active Directory domain controllers. This change follows the deprecation of both Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) and Remote Mailslots technologies, though it can be reversed with the use of a new Group Policy.

That’s it for the main changes included in the Windows 11 Canary build 25931. If you want to do a clean installation of this build, ISOs are available to download from Microsoft’s website.
