Microsoft Starts Testing Sports, Traffic, and Finance Updates on the Windows 11 Lock Screen

Microsoft has just released a new update for Windows 11 Insiders on the Release Preview Ring that brings sports, traffic, and finance content to the lock screen. These lock screen updates, which are rolling out gradually to Insiders, will soon join the new weather card that Microsoft added to the Windows 11 lock screen earlier this year.

As you may know, Microsoft is currently testing the same sports, traffic, and finance updates on the Windows 10 lock screen. As I noted last week, it’s quite unusual to see a new feature come first to Windows 10 users, but Microsoft didn’t wait long to bring it to Windows 11 testers as well.

If you prefer to keep a clean lock screen, it’s possible to hide these weather and news updates, which are powered by Microsoft Start, by going to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen. For non-Insiders, this lock screen feature will likely be included in the optional Windows 11 update coming next week, and the public rollout may start with next month’s Patch Tuesday update.

In other Insider-related news, Microsoft has also started testing a new spellcheck feature in Notepad. It’s now rolling out to all testers on the Canary and Dev channels, and the Windows Insider team will be monitoring feedback before making it available to all users.
