Microsoft has just released the July 2025 Patch Tuesday updates for Windows 11 and Windows 10 users. This month, the latest version of Windows 11 is getting a new (or old?) taskbar feature that will automatically resize icons to fit more apps when space runs low. Users with Copilot+ PCs will also get to try a new Ask Microsoft 365 Copilot action in Click to Do.
Here are the main changes that will roll out gradually for users installing the KB5062553 update for Windows 11 version 24H2 and the KB5062552 patch for Windows 11 version 23H2:
New Ask Copilot action in Click to Do (24H2 only): Users with a Copilot+ PC and a Microsoft 365 license can access a new “Ask Copilot” action for image and text that simply copies and pastes the selected item into the Copilot app
Show smaller taskbar icons (24H2 only): It’s now possible to make the Taskbar automatically show smaller taskbar buttons when space runs low. However, it’s not possible yet to make the taskbar look smaller.
Screen curtain in Narrator Narrator improvements (24H2 only): This feature protects your privacy by blacking out the screen while it reads content out loud.
New Settings homepage for commercial customers (24H2 only): This new homepage will show cards relevant to enterprise-managed PCs such as “Recommended settings” and “Bluetooth devices” as well as two new enterprise-specific device info and accessibility preferences cards.
Windows Share improvements: Windows Share now shows a preview when you share linked/web content, and you can choose from three compression levels when sharing an image.
PC migration in Windows Backup: The Windows Backup app is getting one part of a coming PC migration feature with a landing and pairing page that previews what’s coming. The full experience will let users transfer files and settings from an old PC to a new one during setup.
EU changes for DMA compliance: Customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) are getting the previously-announced improvements for DMA compliance, most related to web browser defaults.
For Windows 10 users, the KB5062554 update is also available for the version 22H2 of the OS. According to StatCounter, Windows 11 finally replaced Windows 10 as the most popular version of Windows this month, and this was set to happen this year due to Windows 10 about to reach end of support on October 14.
