Microsoft released an emergency patch over the weekend to address a Microsoft account sign-in issue on the March 2026 Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11. This only affected users on the versions 25H2 and 24H2 of the OS using personal Microsoft accounts to sign into apps.
“After you install the Windows update released on or after March 10, 2026, some users might experience an issue signing in to apps with a Microsoft account. Even when the device has a working Internet connection, a “no Internet” error appears during sign in and prevents access to Microsoft services and apps such as Microsoft Teams Free and OneDrive,” Microsoft explained in the release notes for the update.
This out-of-band update (KB5085516) comes right after Microsoft detailed its plan to improve the reliability and performance of Windows 11 throughout 2026. As part of the upcoming changes, Windows users will be able to pause updates for as long as needed.
In recent months, Microsoft has released monthly updates that haven’t met the quality bar Windows 11 users can expect. In January, Microsoft had to release two emergency patches to fix bugs causing issues with cloud storage services, remote connections, and the shutdown process. Last week, the Enterprise versions of Windows 11 also got two out-of-band updates to address Bluetooth and networking issues.
