Microsoft Releases Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17733

Microsoft is delivering Windows 10 Insider Preview build 17733 to testers on the Fast ring. There’s only one new feature: A working dark theme for File Explorer.

“Today, we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17733 (RS5) to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring,” Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar explains. “With Build 17666 we started our journey bringing [a] dark theme to File Explorer. Today’s build marks the turning point where we’ve finished what we set out to do for this release. Thank you to all Insiders that have shared feedback during this time!”

In other words, after lots of fits and starts—by which I mean, a horribly-designed File Explorer that was only partially available in a dark theme—Microsoft finally feels like they’ve gotten in right.

We’ll see: I’m downloading the build as I write this.

Beyond that, there’s nothing new in build 17733, which makes sense: Redstone 5 development is winding down and it may have already reached a feature-complete state.

They released it early to Fast Ring Insiders to get feedback during development. Of course it was going to be broken: it was a work in-progress.

You've been around software development long enough to know how it works. Reserve your judgment for the final release.

Is it feeling stable enough for daily use yet?

I am having troubles with this one. About 10mins after I log in many things stop working: Settings, File Explorer and all Store apps.

When File Explorer is running I do not the dark theme.

As I am running this in a VM I went back to a previous build and upgraded again with the same result.
