Microsoft Brings Outlook Mail and Calendar to HoloLens

Microsoft announced this week that it is bringing its Windows 10 app versions of Outlook Mail and Calendar to the HoloLens. I know. Try to restrain your excitement.

“Our team is eager to get Outlook apps into the hands of early HoloLens developers to allow them to experience the benefits of email and calendaring in mixed reality,” the Outlook team explained. “With Outlook Mail on HoloLens, you can now place your inbox on your office wall to stay on top of emails while simultaneously interacting with other digital content in your real world. You can also quickly see what’s coming up next in your day with your new wall calendar.”

And you can also swivel your head around and bob it up and down so you can see those wall inboxes and calendars through the small mail slot-like field of view afforded by HoloLens, yes.

“This release is just the beginning, and we’re excited about the opportunities that HoloLens presents to build new and powerful ways of staying connected, productive and on top of your schedule,” the team continues. “We are far from done innovating in mixed reality and would love to hear your feedback on how you use Outlook Mail and Calendar on HoloLens and what features you want to see next.”

Oulook-on-Hololens-2

To get Outlook Mail and Calendar on HoloLens, open the Windows Store app and search. As you will discover, these are very similar (if not the same as) the Mail and Calendar apps that are included with Windows 10, and presumably they will be included with HoloLens (which runs Windows 10) going forward as well.
