Stardock Releases Fences 5 with New Chameleon Feature

Stardock this week took its Fences 5 desktop organizational tool out of preview with a major new feature called Chameleon.

“Fences 5 is designed to deliver a modern desktop experience,” Stardock’s Brad Sams said. “Fences is the best way to organize your desktop and with Chameleon and Peek, we have built a modern workflow that provides you instant access to your content while reducing the distractions of the Desktop.”

Here’s what’s new now that Fences is generally available:

Chameleon. This feature blends Desktop icons into the wallpaper, making them less visually distracting while maintaining their normal functionality.

Peek enhancements. In Fences 4, Stardock introduced Peek, which lets you open the tool on top of other windows by typing WINKEY + SPACE. In Fences 5, this feature is now accessible from an icon on the Taskbar.

Easier deployment for businesses. Because Fences is used by thousands of commercial customers (including businesses, education, government, and healthcare customers), Fences 5 for Business now makes it easier to manage deployments. You can import/export layouts for distribution, load configurations from a network drive during logon, and enable new kiosk functionality.

Performance improvements. Thanks to enhancements to the core Fences desktop engine, Fences 5 now offers improved performance compared to the preview releases.
