Microsoft Delivers New Windows 11 Insider Dev and Beta Builds

Windows 11 version 24H2 should arrive any day now, assuming last week’s botched Week D preview update doesn’t mess that up. But the Windows Insider Preview program is pushing forward regardless, with new Dev and Beta builds that arrive 10 days after the previous builds.

Each of these builds has exactly one notable change. Plus, the previously revealed Snipping tool is heading to more testers.

Dev channel

If you have a PC enrolled in the Dev channel, you can now install KB5043168 and upgrade Windows 11 version 24H2 to build to a post-RTM 26120.1912.

The notable new features in this build is:

6 GHz support in Mobile Hotspot. If your PC has a 6 GHz-compatible Wi-Fi module, you can now choose to use that in addition to the previous 2.4 and 5 GHz options. However, it works a bit differently, too: If you choose “Any available” for the network type (the default), it will only swap between 2.4 and 5 GHz as possible. The only way to get 6 GHz is to choose that explicitly.

And that’s about it. There are several other smaller changes and the usual bug fixes too.

Beta channel

Those with a PC enrolled in the Beta channel can install KB5043166 and upgrade Windows 11 version 23H2 to build 22635.4291.

The one notable change in this build is:

No more Tailored experiences. The Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) in Windows Setup now uses the term “Personalized offers” instead of “Tailored experiences,” as does the related setting in Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback after you’re up and running. Whatever it’s called, you’ll want to turn that setting to “Off.”

And yeah, just fixes after that.

Snipping tool update to Beta and Release Preview

Last time, Microsoft noted that the Snipping tool was getting an update in the Insider Canary and Dev channels. Now, this update is available to Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels, too, indicating it will likely go live in stable in October. Now, you can configure where the app will save screenshots and recordings.
