Despite the constant drone of new issues with the upgrade, Microsoft this week expanded its rollout of Windows 11 version 24H2 to individuals.
“We have reached a new stage in the phased rollout of version Windows 11 version 24H2,” the recently updated Windows 11 version 24H2 known issues and notifications page on Microsoft Learn explains. “Eligible [PCs] running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2 will be gradually updated to version 24H2. This automatic update targets only devices that are not managed by IT departments. Users can choose the time to restart their device or postpone the update.”
It’s unclear what triggered this change, as Microsoft never explains the criteria of the deployment milestones it reaches. But this much is clear: 24H2 is automatically rolling out to individuals about a month earlier than its predecessor, 23H2, did. That’s impressive because 23H2 was built on the same codebase as its predecessor, 22H2, while 24H2 is a major upgrade with foundational improvements. Hence, the ongoing issues.
Good luck out there, people.
