What started out as a rough idea about eight months ago, my book about the Surface journey is nearly complete. As we finish up the final edits this week, the book will be ready to ship next Thursday, November 29th.
The title of the book is Beneath A Surface and you can pre-order it here on Thurrott, or Amazon, or sign-up to be notified when it will be available on LeanPub. There will be a print edition, only available to pre-order today on Thurrott, or a version can be purchased on Amazon once the book is complete (Bezos does not currently let you pre-order physical copies of the book) and of course a digital version as well.
Sign up for our new free newsletter to get three time-saving tips each Friday — and get free copies of Paul Thurrott's Windows 11 and Windows 10 Field Guides (normally $9.99) as a special welcome gift!

The book is around 155 pages and is a casual read, it’s not deeply technical but focuses more on the challenges the team faced along the way to building a billion-dollar brand. There are inside stories that have never been reported and also the company’s roadmap for 2019 and a bit of 2020 (of course, being a year or longer out, plans can and will change).
I have let a couple of people read (including Paul who is graciously editing the book) it already and will be sharing it more broadly with other writers soon, but Mary Jo Foley quite liked it. Along with Surface, there are a few details about Windows Phone, Windows 8/10 development and a lot more.
If you ordered from Amazon, the book will show up on your Kindle and if you ordered on Thurrott, you will get an email with how to download your book. For those who purchased a physical copy, you will get an email about that status of your order – the book is heading to the printers later this week for proofing.
It's official. I have finally concluded the (two rounds of) edits for @bdsams' book "Beneath a Surface." And I would like to recommend that you buy it and read it. Great story, well told.https://t.co/zUErwURMbQ

There is always more that can be added or edited or refined, but I’m quite happy with how this has turned out; I can promise that you will learn a thing or two while reading the book.
Thank you to everyone who has pre-ordered, I can’t express enough how much this means to me as you are taking a risk on something I have created; it’s a humbling experience. I hope that everyone enjoys it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.
