New Xbox Wireless Headset is Reportedly Coming Soon

Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch a new version of its Xbox Wireless Headset very soon. The existing headset that Microsoft released back in 2021 is currently out of stock on the Microsoft Store, and it may soon be replaced by a slightly pricier model.

On the French blog Dealabs, billbil-kun, an industry insider who previously leaked the design of the PlayStation 5 Pro reported that Microsoft will launch a “refreshed” version of its Xbox Wireless Headset in the coming weeks. It may launch as soon as October 22 in Europe, with a North American release to follow on November 5.

The report says that the headset will come with a new packaging and cost $109.99/€109.99/£99.99. The original model costs at $99.99/€99.99/£94.99 ERP, so this isn’t a huge price difference. However, if this new Xbox Wireless Headset is expected to keep its black color, detail about other hardware changes are currently unknown.

To reduce latency, the current version of the Xbox Wireless headset connects to Xbox consoles via Microsoft’s proprietary Xbox Wireless protocol. The headset also supports Bluetooth as well as simultaneous connections to an Xbox console and a phone or PC. Overall, it was a nice improvement over the Xbox Stereo headset Microsoft released during the Xbox One generation, though there is always room for improvements.

Microsoft previously released a limited edition version of its Xbox Wireless Headset for the 20th anniversary of the original Xbox in fall 2021. Last year, the company also released a Starfield Limited Edition Xbox Wireless Controller and Headset in white color with some subtle red and gold accents.

The Xbox team doesn’t really have anything to celebrate this fall if you don’t count the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. However, the company may want to capitalize on the upcoming launch of the white all-digital Xbox Series X and the limited edition 2 TB model to refresh what remains an important Xbox accessory.
