Amazon is Testing Audio Product Summaries on Some Product Pages

Amazon audio product summaries

Amazon has started testing AI-generated audio product summaries on some product pages on its US store. The short-form audio clips are created using Amazon’s product catalog, customer reviews, and information pulled from the web, and users will hear AI-created experts discussing key details for these products.

“These AI shopping experts have done the research for you, analyzing product details, customer reviews, and information from across the web, then bringing product details to life and allowing customers to simply hear the highlights,” Amazon explained. “The feature makes product research fun and convenient—it’s like having helpful friends discuss potential purchases to make your shopping easier, even if you’re multitasking or on the go.”

Overall, these audio product summaries should work a bit like the audio overviews created with Google’s NotebookLM. The AI-powered service can turn articles and documents into podcast-like content with virtual hosts, and a NotebookLM app for iOS and Android was just released earlier this week.

At the moment, Amazon’s audio product summaries are only available on mobile for a subset of products such as the Ninja Blender, the OSEA Undaria Algae Body Oil, and this Splash Pond Toddler Water Table. Mobile users can check them out by opening a product detail page and then tapping the “Hear the highlights” button. Amazon said that it’s planning to expand these audio product summaries to more product detail pages and to more U.S. customers in the coming months.
