Gemini is Now Available to All Google Workspace Customers

Google announced today that Gemini for Google Workspace, formerly named Duet AI for Google Workspace, is now available for teams of all sizes. And it’s getting a nice price cut for smaller businesses.

“Gemini will be built into the Workspace apps that millions of customers use every day,” Google general manager and vice president Aparna Pappu writes in the announcement post. “Gemini for Workspace will also include a new standalone experience that allows users to chat with Gemini and features enterprise-grade data protections. This new experience begins rolling out today.”

Google announced Duet AI for Google Workspace at Google I/O last May, describing it as a collaborative tool that would embed the power of generative AI across all of its Workspace apps. Google released Duet AI for Workspace in August 2023 at $30 per user per month, like Copilot for Microsoft 365, along with a new chat experience. But like Microsoft, the firm also rebranded its AI offerings midstream, switching to the Gemini brand in early February 2024, matching the branding of its most powerful AI models.

Starting today, the newly rebranded Gemini for Google Workspaces is available in two plans, the Gemini Enterprise add-on that replaces Duet AI for Workspace Enterprise and a new Gemini Business add-on, which costs as little as $20 per user per month with an annual commitment. (Looking at my Workspace Business Basic account, I see $20 per month on an annual commitment, or $24 month-to-month. There are also discounts for the first 3 months, with pricing of $14/$16.80 per month.) As Google notes, this addition extends access to these capabilities to teams and organizations of all sizes.

Gemini Business is described as a suite of generative AI features that enhance productivity, boost creativity, and save time, and customers will soon gain access to Gemini with Ultra 1.0, Google’s most capable AI model. Features include drafting and refining email in Gmail, generating plans for projects in Sheets, and creating original images from text directly in Slides, writing and refining drafts in Docs. It also adds enhanced lighting and audio quality and AI-generated backgrounds in Meet. You can learn more here.

Gemini Enterprise has the same capabilities but with “unfettered access to Gemini for heavy users of generative AI.” It also includes AI-powered meetings with automatic translated captions in over 100 language pairs, and, soon, automatic meeting notes. As before, Gemini Enterprise is priced as low as $30 per user per month, with an annual commitment.

This is very exciting. I’m signing up for Gemini Business and will compare it with Microsoft Copilot Pro.
