Microsoft Starts Rolling Out Copilot in Windows to the Canary Channel

Copilot in Windows

Microsoft has just announced the release of the Windows 11 Insider build 25982 on the Canary Channel. With this build, Microsoft is finally starting to roll out Copilot in Windows to Canary Channel testers.

If you thought that Copilot was already available on the Canary Channel, you’re not alone. This is supposed to be the Channel for early adopters eager to test new features while they’re still unpolished, but these days, most new Windows 11 features come first to the Dev Channel. Yes, being on the Canary Channel can often feel like you’re missing out on a lot of things, but maybe that won’t always be the case.

Anyway, Copilot in Windows is currently only available in North America, the UK, and parts of Asia and South America. Microsoft plans to add more markets over time, but if you’re in Europe, you’re currently out of luck. The AI assistant is also available with the Windows 11 Fall Update that Microsoft released as an optional update on September 26.

Today’s build 25982 also changes how the SMB network protocol works on Windows 11. To improve security, SMB now supports requiring encryption of all outbound SMB client connections.

Microsoft also addressed issues causing File Explorer to hang on opening. Lastly, a bug causing the print queue to be inaccessible has also been fixed. You can check out the list of other changes, bug fixes, and known issues in the full release notes.
