Microsoft has dropped today the Windows 11 Canary build 27858, which is the first flight on this Insider Channel in three weeks. It follows the build 27842 released on April 23, which added the new green error screen that was previously rolled out to other channels.
The main change in today’s Canary build 27858 is the new emoji button in the system tray area of the taskbar. This feature already started rolling out for non-Insiders in April, so it’s strange that it wasn’t available on the Canary Channel until now. Canary Insiders also still don’t have access to AI features like Recall and Click-to-Do, which just started rolling out to non-Insiders on Copilot+ PCs this week.
This new build brings other changes that were previously rolled out to other Channels, including increased support for text scaling across File Explorer, File Open/Save dialogs, and the copy dialogs. Packaged apps pinned to the desktop should also look bigger and easier as they no longer show an accent colored backplate.
Microsoft also fixed various bugs in this build, including an issue that was causing some Insiders to see a black screen when upgrading to the previous flight. Insiders should also no longer experience Wi-Fi connectivity issues after installing this build.
