Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17744 Hits the Fast Ring

Microsoft Delivers Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16273 for PC

Today, Microsoft issued the fourth Windows 10 Insider Preview build in a row with no new features. Yes, the end (of RS5 development) is nigh.

“Today, we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17744 (RS5) to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring,” Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar announced.

The blog post then goes on to list several small changes, improvements, and fixes in the build. And a handful of known issues.

My expectation is that Microsoft will complete the development of this Windows version—Windows 10 version 1809—by the end of the month. And will ship it, earlier than originally expected, by the end of September.

The first known issue in the list is that your PC might bugcheck (GSOD) if you try to log off or shut down.

That might be the most hilarious known issue I've ever seen in an insider build. I love it.

MS will be providing a Log-off/Shut down app in the store for those that still require this functionality.

In reply to wunderbar:

So why would you release it if it has the potential to do that. I appreciate we are insiders and expect some problems but why not fix that before releasing it even to insiders? Is it just me!?

What is stunning is the lack of Slow ring builds this cycle.

I wish they would roll out an update to the Slow ring. 17713 has been out for quite some time and there are a number of bugs that must have been addressed by now. Another month for the final release is a long time to wait for a more stable build.

I was never able to get the 17741 build installed, but this one did finally install. Whoopie!
