It was only yesterday that Microsoft accidently went live with a page that provided a few new details about extensions for Edge and now we have a big name brand jumping on the bandwagon. Adblock Plus, likely one of the most popular extensions available today, is coming to the browser.
You can check out the announcement page here; it simply says the extensions is coming but there is not a firm date for its release.
This shouldn’t come as a big surprise as extensions for Edge are nearly identical to those that run on Chrome. Still, for those who have been waiting to see if Adblock was coming to Edge, you can now rest a bit easier.
Now, it needs to be said that you should be mindful of when and how you use this extensions. For example, this post that you are reading is free because Thurrott and Petri are supported by ads which means blocking them on this site reduces our ability to bring you content, attend trade-shows and the like. With that being said, we will have an option in the near future that will allow you to remove the ads on this site and we will announce more about that once we firm up the details and other perks.
I know that one other extension many users are waiting to see if it will come to Edge is LastPass. So far, they have not announced anything but it is still very early in the release cycle for announcements to be made.
The page that accidently leaked yesterday that gave a few more bits of info about extensions did not state when the feature will arrive. But seeing as Adblock Plus is now talking about its extension and Microsoft is getting set to publish a webpage about the feature, it can’t be too far away.
