We’re just three days away from Apple’s big WWDC 2025 keynote, and more information is starting to leak ahead of the event. That’s once again thanks to the well-informed Mark Gurman, who previously revealed that Apple will adopt a new numbering system for its software platforms going forward.
iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, visionOS 26, and tvOS 26 should all be revealed on Monday, and they will also introduce a unified interface codenamed “Solarium” internally. Gurman also previously shared details about a new AI-powered battery optimization mode for iPhones, a cross-device syncing feature for captive Wi-Fi login details, and a new Gaming app that was first mentioned by 9to5Mac.
Gurman’s latest report about Apple’s WWDC plans on Bloomberg includes new information about upcoming iOS and iPadOS features. The latter will get a revamped multitasking experience that may finally bring the iPad closer to the Mac in terms of productivity.
Here are the main new features Gurman mentioned today:
New iPadOS multitasking experience: iPadOS 26 is said to be “completely revamping” how multitasking works by taking inspiration from the Mac. While the report is light on details, Gurman believes that the new experience may require users to be connected to a keyboard and trackpad.
Phone improvements: The iOS Phone app is expected to get a new optional view that combines favorite contacts, recent calls, and voicemails.
New Preview app: Apple’s Preview app, which is the default app for opening and editing images and PDFs on macOS, is coming to iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 and should be preinstalled on these two platforms.
Simplified Camera app: After adding new options for power users in recent years, Apple’s Camera app may get a simplified UI on both iOS 26 and iPadOS 26.
New Messages features: Apple’s Messages app will be playing catch-up with WhatsApp and other messaging apps with the addition of polls and background images for conversations.
System-wide AI translation: Devices that support Apple Intelligence will get a system-wide translation feature that will be able to translate phone calls in real time.
Third-party hand controllers support on visionOS: The Apple Vision Pro is getting support for third-party hand controllers that can mimic hand movements, such as Sony’s PSVR2 controllers.
According to Gurman, we should not expect any big AI updates this year beyond Apple opening access to its large language models to app developers. After integrating ChatGPT into Siri with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS 15.2, Gurman believes that Apple isn’t ready yet to announce a similar integration with Google’s Gemini AI. After delaying a much-anticipated Siri upgrade earlier this year, the reporter said that the company “isn’t planning to showcase any significant new Siri features at this year’s event.”
