Apple has just announced that its WWDC 2026 developer conference will be held on June 8–12, 2026. As usual, the annual convention will kick off with a keynote and special event for developers at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, during which Apple is expected to announce the ’27 versions of all of its software platforms.
Last year, the main focus of Apple’s WWDC 25 keynote was Liquid Glass, the new design language full of translucency effects that came to iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, visionOS 26, and tvOS 26. Another big highlight was the new macOS-like menu bar and improved multitasking experience that Apple introduced on iPadOS 26.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that iOS 27, which will likely be released in September, should focus on polish, performance improvements, and new AI features. If Apple has already toned down the divisive Liquid Glass transparency effects in recent updates to iOS 26, what’s still missing is the big update for Siri that Apple first showcased in June 2024.
Despite Apple teaming up with Google to use the company’s Gemini AI models, this full Siri overhaul keeps getting delayed, and it may not be ready until the release of iOS 27 in September. According to Gurman, several new Siri features still aren’t working reliably or fast enough, with the digital assistant sometimes falling back on the existing ChatGPT integration that followed the launch of Apple Intelligence in the fall of 2025.
These Siri delays have led Apple to hit pause on the release of new products, including the company’s first smart home display. Gurman also reported yesterday that new versions of the Apple TV and HomePod mini are ready to go, but they may not ship until Apple finally gets its new AI features up and running.
Apple’s WWDC 2026 conference will be preceded by Google I/O 2026 on May 19-20, with Microsoft’s Build 2026 event to follow on June 2-3. Just like Apple, Microsoft is struggling to develop AI features that users really want, and the company announced last week that it will actually remove “unnecessary Copilot entry points” in Windows 11 apps such as Snipping Tool, Photos, and Notepad.
